OWIT UK President Noreen Burroughes Cesareo FRSA participated on a panel alongside global specialists and experts discussing “The importance of gender equality in trade – Sharing Experiences” on April 19 and 20, 2023.
The panel shared international experiences and discussed the importance of creating supportive business ecosystems to advance women’s participation in international trade. Noreen put forward examples from the UK, highlighting the work carried out over the last decade in understanding the challengages and building the ecosystem to support women traders.
The expert panel reviewed what has been done so far in this respect as well as identified the gaps that still need to be addressed. The panel objectives were as follows:
– Increase awareness of the two-way relationship between trade and gender.
– Share UK´s, Canada´s, Chile´s and International Organisations´ approach to mainstream gender in trade.
– Make known the importance of gender-disaggregated data, gender in #trade policy as well as strategies and monitoring tools.
– Highlight governments´, businesses´, and international organisations´ programmes as well as best practices to advance women´s participation in trade.
The session was organised by The British Canadian Chamber of Trade and Commerce, the British Chilean, and the British Ecuadorian Chamber of Commerce.
