#Accelerate Action: This year, we are fortunate to be mentoring young females studying at UK’s Regent’s University in London, including one who is attached to OWIT UK.

We asked them for their thoughts, and here they are:
Amina Mohammed: “International Women’s Day is a moment for me to reflect on the resilience, strength, and achievements of Black women throughout history and in my own life.
It’s a day to honour the women who fought for equality, often in the face of intersectional oppression, and to celebrate the power we hold in shaping the future. For me, it’s about embracing my identity, uplifting my community, and continuing the fight for justice and equality for all women, especially those of color.”
Erika Moscariello: “March 8 is not just a day of remembrance, but a moment of deep reflection on the role and challenges that we women face every day. As a young woman, student and worker, I live this day with a contrasting vision: on the one hand, the recognition of the goals achieved by women so far; on the other, the awareness of how much still needs to be done.
Being a woman today means living in a subtle and complex balance between ambition and expectations, between rights achieved and obstacles still present. As a student, I deal with a system, where sometimes as a woman, I do not feel sufficiently valued. As a worker, I still witness wage inequalities, I observe women who struggle to reconcile career and private life and to fight the prejudices that still exist.
What I want to see now is a concrete change, not just a symbolic one. I would like this day not to be exhausted in platitudes and stereotyped social posts, but to become an opportunity to discuss real policies in favor of gender equality, to promote more equitable work environments, to encourage a culture that does not yet make it necessary to “prove” our value more than men
For me, Women’s Day is an opportunity to remind myself of how proud I am to be a woman. It is the reminder of how strong and united we can be, but also an invitation to never let our guard down. It is not enough to celebrate women, on March 8 we must create a world in which our value is recognized every day.”
Sara Gorla: “International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on what we have achieved and what we still need to change. As students and workers, we want equal opportunities, respect and security. We want a world where every woman can freely choose her future without hinderance.
Today, more than ever, we must support each other and continue to fight for a more just tomorrow for all. Every small gesture counts and it is important that this can change for our good and to have mutual equality.”
