On 20 March 2025, OWIT International hosted an inspiring webinar, titled “Accelerate Action: Women Entrepreneurs Driving Global Change.” More than just a webinar, it was a showcase of bold leadership, inspiring stories, and the collective power of women supporting women across borders.

The session was moderated by Mrs Blessing Irabor-Oza, OWIT International’s Vice President of Programmes, alongside Dorice Malle, Vice President of IT. Their thoughtful and engaging approach created a space for honest dialogue, encouragement, and global connection right from the outset.

Inspiring journeys and tangible insights

The panel featured three remarkable women entrepreneurs from all corners of the world (Nigeria, New York and the United Kingdom), each with a unique story and business journey:

  • Karen King, CEO and Founder of Fronterra Global Advisory
  • Temitope Mayegun, Founder & President of Avila Group
  • Elisabeth Spry, Head of Marketing & Strategic Partnerships at Global Trade Review (GTR) and VP at OWIT UK.

Together, they explored what it truly means to build a business that is both resilient and globally minded. From navigating initial funding challenges to seizing opportunities in the digital economy, each speaker offered powerful reflections rooted in lived experience.

Temitope spoke passionately about building Avila Group from the ground up, grounded in purpose and persistence. Karen highlighted how entering the world of trade meant confronting—and then transforming—systems that often excluded women. Elisabeth shared how clarity in storytelling and brand messaging can serve as a powerful catalyst for growth and influence.

The power of OWIT’s global network

A recurring theme throughout the discussion was the transformative role OWIT has played in each woman’s business journey. From introductions that led to new markets, to mentoring relationships that shaped strategic thinking, the network has proven to be more than just a professional community—it’s a springboard for global impact.

Each speaker credited OWIT with providing access to international opportunities, practical resources, and—most importantly—a sense of belonging. Whether through trade missions, networking events, or informal connections, OWIT continues to open doors that matter.

Key takeaways

Here are five standout lessons from the session that resonated with participants:

  • Finance must evolve to serve the realities of women entrepreneurs.
  • Digital fluency is essential—technology is the engine of global growth.
  • Storytelling is strategic—knowing and owning your narrative builds trust.
  • Networks work when you do—active participation drives real opportunities.
  • Leadership is not optional—women must move beyond participation and shape the agenda.

The speakers encouraged attendees to take intentional action: audit your digital presence, build strategic connections, and pursue opportunities boldly—even before you feel “ready.”
